Google.com

IN
BRIEF
I'm
not sure Google.com
really needs an introduction, but
here goes... Google is one of the
most popular - and powerful -
old-style search engines. By
old-style, I'm referring to search
engines that use spiders to build
up their indexes. Google has well
over a billion pages archived, and
is one of the first search engines
to pick up on new sites or pages.
It also returns very accurate
results, without the advertising
clutter that many of its
competitors resort to.
Along
with the search engine results,
Google also incorporates a
modified version of the Open
Directory Project directory
results, which have been processed
based on their popularity with
Google searchers.
RESTRICTIONS
ON USE
There
are various terms and conditions
specified, along with details of
the limitations of the free search
version of Google search (it's
possible to pay to have a more
comprehensive - and integrated -
version of Google to incorporate
into a site.)
SAMPLE
SEARCH BOX
There
are two types of Google search box
available. One focuses purely on
sites web-wide. The other (shown
below) can serve to allow your
visitors to search your own site -
or at least, those pages of your
site that have been picked up by
Google's busy spiders!
GET
THE CODE TO PUT ON YOUR SITE
The
free version of Google search comes with
various customization possibilities. You
can add your own logo to the results
page, and specify various colors and
other parameters. This freedom comes at
a "price" in that you will
need to register
and go through the 4-step customization
process in order to gain access
to the HTML to put on your site.
